Viral Skincare Products That Actually Work

I’ve tried plenty of viral skincare products, but these 7 actually earned a permanent place in my routine—from tretinoin and Cicaplast to Biodance masks, urea cream, and red light therapy.

I Tried the Viral Skincare Products—These 7 Actually Work

If there’s one thing the internet has taught me, it’s that everything is apparently a miracle skincare product.

Scrolling through Instagram and it feels like every few posts is some new product that's supposed to be better than Botox or an entire skin care line that can magically make you look ten years younger. And me, I always do some digging and more than likely the product doesn't live up to the hype.

But after reading about some actual products that work and are recommended by real dermatologists, I decided to give a few of these products a try. Because hey, who doesn't want to look a little younger?

Some of the products recommended were a little out of my price range, but a lot of the mid-tier products seemed worth the splurge. Especially if they delivered on their promises for staving off fine lines and wrinkles.

So these are the viral skincare products that have actually earned a permanent place in my routine.

1. Tretinoin

Let's start with the heavyweight.

Tretinoin is one of those skincare products where the hype is actually justified.

Tretinoin is a prescription retinoid, and unlike a lot of trendy skincare ingredients, there is decades of research behind topical retinoids. It’s one of the products I would put at the top of the list if someone asked me which skincare ingredient has genuinely earned its reputation.

For me, the biggest difference is the overall texture and appearance of my skin. My skin just looks smoother, clearer and more refined when I'm consistent with it.

The catch?

It can absolutely make your skin angry if you go from zero to 100. And your skin will peel. It increases cell turnover so dead skin is what you'll be dealing with. But it's totally worth it!

When I first started using tretinoin, I quickly learned that more is NOT better. A tiny amount is enough (the size of a pea), and giving your skin time to adjust is key. Start with maybe just two nights a week then increase from there. I use mine every other night still just to be on the safe side. It's a prescription too so you can always check with your doctor to see what they recommend for your specific skin.

And this brings me to my next product…

2. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+

If tretinoin is the reason my skin looks better, Cicaplast is one of the reasons I can actually tolerate tretinoin.

This stuff is basically my skincare security blanket.

I like applying a layer of Cicaplast after my tretinoin at night, particularly when my skin is feeling dry or a little irritated. It gives my skin that comfortable, moisturized feeling without making my nighttime routine ridiculously complicated. It is thick though and your face can sometimes look a little white after using it. But it will absorb and it's so good for your skin.

It's become one of those products I reach for whenever my skin barrier needs a little extra love.

La Roche-Posay describes Cicaplast Baume B5+ as a soothing multi-purpose cream, and it has become one of those boring-but-effective products that I genuinely don't want to be without. It's great from rough knees or elbows too. And in the winter it is such a lifesaver too.

My favorite nighttime combination:
Tretinoin → Cicaplast → go to bed.

Wake up with skin that feels much less like you've been using a prescription retinoid.

3. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser

Another product that isn't particularly exciting—and that's exactly why I love it.

A good cleanser should clean your skin without making you feel like you've stripped every molecule of moisture from your face.

The La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Facial Cleanser is one of those products that just does its job.

It's creamy, gentle and doesn't leave my skin feeling tight afterward. I was always told with oily skin to use the gel cleansers and my skin always felt so dry and stripped after using it. Now that I've switched cleansers my face is clean without removing necessary oils.

And when you're using tretinoin, I think having a boring, gentle cleanser is particularly helpful. I don't need my cleanser to exfoliate, tingle, brighten, polish, or do seventeen other things.

I just need it to clean my face without starting a fight with my skin barrier.

La Roche-Posay's own consumer testing found that 94% of participants said this cleanser felt gentle on their skin.

Sometimes boring skincare is good skincare.

4. The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1% (aka "Buffet")

This one is probably the most “wait, what exactly is this supposed to do?” product on the list.

You may know it by its old name: Buffet + Copper Peptides 1%.

The Ordinary has since renamed it Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides 1%, but you'll still see people referring to it as Buffet all over the internet.

And I really, really like it. I've used it for years and it's been a part of my routine since it first came out.

Copper peptides have become one of those skincare ingredients that gets thrown around online with a lot of exaggerated claims, so I don't want to tell you that this serum is going to magically rebuild your face overnight.

But I do think copper peptides are an interesting ingredient, and this particular formula combines them with a whole collection of peptides, amino acids and hyaluronic acid.

The Ordinary says the formula is designed to target the appearance of fine lines while supporting elasticity, smoothness and firmness.

For me, this is one of those quietly good products. And it's at an affordable price too.

My skin feels smoother and looks healthy when I use it consistently, and I like having a peptide-focused serum in my routine.

One important note: The Ordinary recommends avoiding this serum in the same routine as retinoids, direct acids and some strong antioxidants.

So I keep this one separate from my tretinoin, thus the every other night routine.

5. Urea Cream

This is probably the least glamorous product on this entire list.

And it might be the one I recommend most enthusiastically.

If you have dry, cracked heels, buy a urea cream.

Seriously.

This is one of those skincare hacks that feels almost embarrassingly simple. I have suffered from cracked heels for decades and I've tried everything. The foot masks that are like socks, never worked. The pumice stone, made a little improvement but not much. A thousand different hydrating lotions. Nothing seemed to make a difference until I tried this.

At night, I apply a generous layer of urea cream to my feet, put on a pair of socks, and go to bed.

That's it.

The next morning?

Baby-soft feet.

Urea is a humectant that helps draw water into the skin, and at higher concentrations it also has keratolytic properties, meaning it helps soften and break down thick, rough skin.

So while it isn't nearly as glamorous as a $60 facial serum, it's one of those products where you can actually notice a difference.

And if you've ever had the dreaded dry, cracked heel situation, you know that is worth its weight in gold.

My nighttime foot routine:

Urea cream → cotton socks → sleep.

I will say that it has a very unique smell to it. It's not bad but it does smell almost medicinal. But once you get some socks over your feet the smell isn't really noticeable. And your feet won't smell like that in the morning either. So for me, to have perfectly soft feet without scouring or laying a million different lotions, it's worth it.

6. Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask

Okay, now we get to the fun stuff.

I was very skeptical of these viral Korean hydrogel masks.

You know the ones.

They look slightly ridiculous when you put them on, you walk around the house looking like a very hydrated ghost, and TikTok tells you that you need to sleep in one. I do not sleep in mine, but I will wear them for a couple hours before I go to bed.

The Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask is one of those viral products that actually lives up to the experience.

It's a hydrogel mask designed to be worn for several hours or overnight. Biodance formulates it with collagen, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and fermented ingredients, and the mask becomes increasingly transparent as you wear it.

What I notice most is hydration and that plump, fresh-skin look.

This isn't replacing my tretinoin or my regular skincare routine. It's more like the skincare equivalent of putting clean sheets on the bed.

Sometimes your skin just looks really, really good afterward.

And if I'm getting ready for an event, traveling, or just want my skin to look especially hydrated, this is one of the masks I reach for.

It's viral for a reason.

7. The Red Light Therapy Mask Dupe I Bought on Amazon

And finally, the gadget.

Red light therapy has been everywhere for the last few years, and the name-brand masks can get very expensive.

I ended up buying an Amazon dupe instead.

And here's where I want to be really specific:

I wouldn't tell you that every inexpensive red light mask is equivalent to an expensive one.

That's not how the technology works.

The wavelength matters, but so do things like irradiance, treatment dose, treatment time, coverage and the actual construction of the device.

What made me comfortable trying mine was that the specifications listed for the device were in the same red/NIR wavelength ranges used by the better-known devices.

And I have genuinely liked the results I've gotten from it.

My skin looks brighter and healthier when I'm consistent with red light therapy, and I like that I can put the mask on while I'm folding laundry, answering emails or watching TV. It's only a few minutes so it's easy to through it on in the morning before I put makeup on or at night after I wash my face.

It's one of those things where consistency matters much more to me than having the fanciest device on the market.

And this is probably my biggest lesson from buying viral skincare products:

You don't necessarily need the $600 version.

You need a device that actually delivers the appropriate wavelengths and dose—and that you're going to use consistently.

So, Which Viral Skincare Products Are Actually Worth It?

After trying a lot of skincare, I've become much less interested in products that promise instant transformation.

My favorite products are the ones that quietly become part of my routine because I can actually see or feel a difference.

If I had to narrow this list down to my absolute staples, I'd say:

For anti-aging: Tretinoin

For keeping my skin comfortable with tretinoin: Cicaplast

For a gentle everyday cleanser: La Roche-Posay Toleriane

For peptides: The Ordinary Multi-Peptide + Copper Peptides

For dry feet: Urea cream

For a serious hydration boost: Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask

For an at-home skincare gadget: Red light therapy

And maybe that's what I've come to appreciate most about skincare.

It doesn't have to be complicated.

You don't need a 14-step routine with a different serum for every square inch of your face.

Give me a few products that actually work, that I enjoy using, and that I can stick with consistently.

I'll take that over the latest TikTok miracle product any day.

As always, skincare is personal. What works beautifully for me may not work for everyone. Tretinoin is a prescription medication, so talk with your healthcare professional about whether it's appropriate for you and how to use it safely.
